Painting Mario Balotelli

Found myself with some time to try a new piece and settled on this seasons most interesting footballer, Manchester City's (at the moment) Mario Balotelli.

Thought I'd post up the steps involved incase anyone was interested, so here they are...

What you will need:

Spraypaint - I use Montana spraypaint and for this piece used 5 colours (Black, White, Steel Grey, Dark Grey, Light Grey)

Something to cut with - I use an X-acto No.11 Blade

Stencil Material - I Use 210Gsm Card

Something to spray on - I Used an 'upcycled' (Previously used and re-primed) canvas as i do with all of my first editions in this size.

Patience and persistance

First step, cut the different stencil layers, one for each shade to be used. In this piece I cut 4 main stencils but there are actually 10 seperate layers within them that will be used.

Layer one sprayed (Steel Grey Base Layer)

Layer 2 Sprayed

Layer 3 Sprayed (This is stencil one used again to overlap layer 2 and give the detail to the lower face)

Layer 4 Sprayed (Light Grey detail)

Layer 5 & 6 Sprayed (Black and white both on same stencil)

Layer 6 Sprayed (Smaller details added)

And Finished

I was fascinated to see how you created these, what an amazing process - really makes me appreciate how much work goes into your pieces of art. Wonderful! x
